Schedule a Trip Scheduling a trip is easy! Well I thought it was off the charts. This is unprecedented! I happened to be with one of the organizers a couple of days before the Feb. With Mesa Riverview being the start location I was having a difficult time envisioning that many bikes staged there, let alone getting out. Ride day…. NOT… the numbers appeared to be valid, there were 4 rows of bikes, two on each side of the street stretching as far as I could see, then around a corner to who knows where, and a steady stream of riders approaching from all directions.
I spoke with riders staged at the front who had arrived at 7am to secure that spot in the inevitable monster pack.
The band had begun to play, breakfast was being served at no less than 3 large restaurants on site and numerous others within easy walking distance, the Copper Chopper was drawing a crowd, media in the air and on the ground and people everywhere! DPS confirmed the event as the largest or- ganized ride in Arizona history, with over bikes in a pack, toss those previous numbers I mentioned.
There were over 20 states and Canada represented and I met one couple from Germany who made a side trip from touring the U. There were small groups of people surrounding Arizona Centennial Ride officials all over the place and this process only took about 15 minutes.
Everyone also got a raffle ticket for the Copper Chopper. At the check in, we were required to sign a liability waiver and then we received our wrist bands. I went off to collect my ride pin and t-shirt as directed to another location. Over the next several hours, more and more bikers arrived and filled all the remaining parking lots. There were so many bikes to look at that I couldn't believe it.
Next to Sturgis, this. I think the official figure was over bikes! The weather couldn't have been better. Then we waited The scheduled start time of came and went and we still hadn't started our bikes up. At about , everyone in our lot was getting anxious and began to start up and get into position to exit the lot and join the long train. The guys at the front of the pack had already reached the Capitol and we were still sitting.
Finally, we had our turn and were moving.
