Cons Pay can be much better, not much room for growth in the company, not year round in asphalt division. Martin Marietta is the top dog when it comes to road paving. They also take their safety very seriously, which is nice. They pay very competitively and their benefits are awesome. That being said, once you get into this large company you become just an employee number. Your personal life and personal responsibilities are not held to as high of regard as their jobs are.
So flexibility is not one if their highlights. Also, some of their foreman have big egos and even bigger mouths, which can make working with certain egotistical foreman quite difficult. Also they work you to the bone. However, like I said, they are very safety conscious, they pay competitively, and their benefits package us awesome. Mining is growing exponentially requiring suppliers to produce more and more, Martin preaches safety however when it comes down to it safety is only important when it's convenient at this company. Upper management has little to no respect for the people on the ground, and they could care less that anyone has families you will be worked until burn out finally pushes you over the edge.
Turnover at this company is a never ending thing, and when they can actually find anyone that wants to work here they only hire the bottom of the barrel workers who miss dozens of days of work, meaning the decent workers get to pick up the slack.
