I have worked on satirical verse and fiction, transatlantic literary relations, law and literature, textual studies, and the literature of sexuality. I have taught over twenty-five distinct courses in literature, working with students at every level, undergraduate or graduate: introductions to literature, Shakespeare, satire, "The Literature and Politics of Paranoia," both halves of the British literature survey, period courses covering British writing from to the present, and a course on the early American novel, as well as my primary field, the British Romantic period.
Honors and Awards:. Research Interests:. This book recounts and analyzes Lord Byron's conflicts with the law in the period in order to advance a revisionist interpretation of the relationship between literary expression and legal inhibitions in the long eighteenth century.
He takes forever to grade and you will probably have no idea of what your grade is until the very end. Graded by few things. May 6th, Never gives students the credit when they answer a question correctly, it's not what HE wants exactly so it's wrong. He will ask "What do you mean by that? Never calls anyone by name, doesn't bother learning names. Never emails back. Graded by few things Lecture heavy Tough grader. May 3rd, He asks you to answer questions and speak up in class but will find something wrong with everything you say.
Never says exactly what he's looking for when grading so anything you do will end up not being the right thing. Wants you to turn in everything via email and never passes anything back.
Nice guy but worst professor I've ever had. Apr 24th, Not only does he treat this class as if it is his personal TEDtalk on every irrelevant topic, but he also is extremely rude to all students. He will openly make fun of students in the class for not answering a question the way he wants, even if you get the question right.
Don't expect helpful feedback on your papers either. He will only insult you. Dyer pays little attention to students, consistently shows his open disdain for their opinions and questions, and clearly does not put in effort to learn the names of students. The assignments which are extremely few and far between are unclear and very demanding. He assigns textbooks to buy, then discredits them in nearly every class. One of the worst professors I've had yet.
Most of the other reviews are correct - he often goes off on tangents during class rather than discuss any material. Asks ridiculous questions that have no real importance to the course and expects a certain answer that only he knows. Difficult to participate in this environment. Would not recommend. Oct 5th, While he knows what he's talking about when it comes to literature, he freely admits that he doesn't know much else.
That doesn't stop him from trying to talk about it, though. He'll go off on class-long tangents and call students dumb repeatedly for not answering his questions the way he wants them answered. Impossible to contact outside of class.
May 11th, Was difficult to reach over the course of the semester and frequently "didn't receive your paper" that you emailed. I was out of school for a few weeks being in the hospital and all of my teachers were willing to give me extensions and be helpful except for Dyer. Apr 19th,
